CPC - SOCCER 7

SOCCER SEASON AT CPC!!

The Soccer season at our beloved Parsee club commences every year with our eagerly anticipated Annual Corporate and Club Five a Side Football Tournament. Over the years the tournament has grown from strength to strength, both in number of teams participating, standard of football and more importantly, in substance and value.

This year we had a record 44 Club teams participating, nearly double the number from previous years. The Corporate tournament, which is run simultaneously on our lush ground, saw 25 companies participate: a total of 69 teams.

The soccer fiesta began on 22nd March with huge crowds turning up on all days. The sumptuous canteen and the high octane football left them satiated every day. The standard of football has gone up dramatically, especially with the introduction of ex India internationals and other eminent football personalities in our Country who have taken a liking and play in the tournament.

Tomb Raiders, led by Alvito D’Cunha, Ex India International, who were Club Champions last year, were knocked out in the semi-finals by Local Heroes Tigers (a fashionable alias for the young talented Bow Barracks side). In the other semi final our home team CPC Blue were beaten by M.P.Birla, who became eventual winners of the tournament, convincingly beating Local Heroes Tigers in the final by 3-1. M.P.B’s Arjun Das was adjudged player of the tournament.

On the corporate side the last 4 were Xpertech, Teleminds, Bando Design and Cognizant Green. Xpertech faced a strong Bando Design in the finals where the team that flew down from Bangladesh, just to play in the tournament, triumphed in the end. Justin Quigley of Xpertech was named Best player of the Corporate tournament.

A grand dinner and dance was organized on the final night at 52 Chowringhee. All prizes for both Club and Corporate tournaments were given out at the ceremony. A live band, Blue Mist, played through most of the night with most players shaking their leg well after the tournament as well. The wholesome dinner of Mutton Biryani, Chicken Chaap and Chicken Tandoori, was catered this time by Aminia.

CPC would like to thank all those who were present throughout one month of football as well as those who worked behind the scenes for our club. We would also like to thank all our many Sponsors, The Ideal Group, Atletico de Kolkata, Coca Cola, James Warren & Co. , and Decathlon, without whose support we may have been left wanting. We look forward to next year to make this tournament bigger than it already is with their continued help and support.
